SINGLE SEAT BUGGIES RED ROUTE - MUST STAY IN ROUGH AT ALL TIMES

Seniors Welcome

A warm welcome to Westwood (Leek) Golf Club Seniors’ Section; our Seniors Section welcomes both existing Club members and those who have recently taken up Club membership to join this thriving section within Westwood (Leek) Golf Club.

The Seniors Section is open to all golfers of 55 years of age or over and welcomes members from single figure handicappers to those with the highest handicap. Lady members are particularly welcome.

We have an extensive and varied diary of events throughout the year, although the most important aspect is playing social golf in a spirit of camaraderie and enjoyment. Events during the year, organised by our committee, include Seniors Open and Closed competitions, several Away Days as well as fixtures with our Ladies Section.

On Tuesday and Thursday mornings the Seniors Section plays a ‘friendly’ rollup 4 Ball Better Ball. New members and guests are most welcome, so turn up outside the clubhouse for a 0800hrs draw and play in a four or three ball with whoever else is there (a great relaxed way to meet other members of the Seniors Section).

Once a month there is an informal (non-handicap qualifying) Stableford competition. These are usually held on a Thursday. The entry fee is £2 payable in the Pro’s shop and prizes are tokens for 1st, 2nd and 3rd places. A small amount is set aside each month to fund an annual ‘Order of Merit’ prize – this prize goes to the golfer who averages the highest score over the year.

Additionally the Seniors Section Team play some 16 friendly matches during the Spring/Summer against other clubs. For an annual fee of £5 members of the Seniors Section are eligible to play irrespective of handicap or age. These events involve a round of golf, a meal (usually smart casual attire) and some dubious jokes by the captains. All in all it’s a great way to play on other courses, enjoy their facilities and make new friends. Full details can be found in the Diary section of the Club website.

The Seniors Section has its own notice board within the clubhouse where details of our events, particularly our team matches are displayed. If you want to play in these events then put your name down on the list when they go up on the board, this is usually about 5 weeks prior to a the match, teams are drawn about a fortnight before.

Well supported by Dave Tunnicliffe and a raft of past captains.

The Seniors Section is a very friendly group who welcome all new members, be they to the club or existing club members who have matured to this age. So come on and join us and extend your golfing experience. The social side of the Seniors Section is a great way of making new and lasting friends not only at Westwood but at other clubs as well.

Feel free to contact any of the committee members for more information or just turn up and drop your ball into the hat on either a Tuesday or Thursday morning.
