The Past Captains Society was founded in 1966 by Marie Goodwin and is looking forward to the 50th Anniversary. Preparations are already well under-way for the Centenary celebration in 2016.
Jean Greenhalgh was Lady Captain at Westwood in 1994, when her term of office ended in 1994 she became eligible to join the NSLCS which entitles her and any past captain of the North Staffs Lady Captains Society to become the Captain of that society. Jeans opportunity came in 2012 when she became Vice Captain and then in November 2013 at the NSLCS AGM she took over as Captain for 2013/14.
Jean celebrated her Captains day at Westwood on Friday 13th June 2014 this proved not to be an unlucky day for Jean unlike her first event in April. This was the Spring meeting at the Chase where a constant downpour persisted throughout the afternoon, some stalwart ladies completed 18 holes whereas some decided enough was enough after 9 holes, however that day ended in good spirits following a superb meal and the prize presentation.
Those who met for the North Staffordshire Lady Captains’ Society, Captain’s Day were blessed with a very hot sunny day quite a contrast to the previous event. Members of the society travelled from all over North Staffordshire to play golf at Westwood which hosted 72 past captains of the NSLCS, from 14 golf clubs on the day (17 golf clubs in total are affiliated to the NSLCS).
The competition of the day was an 18 hole Stableford played over three divisions, with two main trophies won on the day.
Scores were as follows:
Past Captains Sally Baskeyfield Tray was won by Phillipa Inskip from Barlaston with 29 points.
